To live up to its reputation of being the best IELTS Coaching Centre in Kerala, B-GHUD keeps striving to provide its IELTS students with whatever guidelines are necessary. Here are the IELTS writing strategies IELTS students should be equipped with to enable them to do commendably well in the IELTS tests. 1. IELTS writing is for 60 minutes. Task 2 (Essay) is longer than Task 1 (Graph/Letter) and it also fetches double the marks. It is, therefore, important that students wisely divide the time for each task. Spend 20 minutes on Task 1 so that they can take 40 minutes to attempt the essay comfortably. 2. IELTS students should essentially read and understand the topic thoroughly well. It is because an IELTS essay should address the different parts of the topic relevantly. Otherwise, the task would not be achieved and the IELTS student will lose marks. 3. While writing the introduction, every IELTS student should make sure that they use their own words. Copying the topic as it is to write the introduction will be penalised – copied material will not be counted and your total word count would come down. Make sure that you rephrase the topic for your introduction. 4. After having thoroughly understood the different aspects of the topic – that is, after ensuring exactly what points in the essay are to be dealt with – make a plan mentally on how to approach the essay, what to write and how. You may use rough paper to jot down the points. 5. Divide the main body of your essay into paragraphs. You may write two or three body paragraphs depending upon the topic. It is in these paragraphs that you present your main ideas. You should write these ideas clearly and support them with examples. If your ideas are clear and well supported, you will get more marks. Know more about our Top IELTS Coaching Centre in Kerala 6. While writing the main paragraphs, ensure that they are linked together using “coherence.” Your writing becomes exceptionally impressive if you use apt words or phrases for coherence. An example of good coherence is given below. a. Body paragraph 1 begins: “On the one hand….” b. Body paragraph 2 begins: “On the other hand….” The coherence used above clearly shows that your ideas are contrasting. All essays in B-GHUD books, “IELTS & TOEFL Made Easy” and “IELTS Writing Made Easy” (there are nearly 500 of them!) use an extensive range of coherence for the IELTS students to master prompt use of them. 7. You should write your essay in a discursive style. It means that the sentences you write in a paragraph should be linked together using connective words. It is known as “cohesion.” Cohesion ensures attractive writing. An example of cohesion is given below. “Space research is of great benefits to a nation. However, it is extremely expensive.” This sentence means that “although space research is beneficial, it is very expensive.” See how well the word, ‘however,’ connects the two sentences! Similar to coherence, our books, “IELTS & TOEFL Made Easy” and “IELTS Writing Made Easy” use countless examples of cohesion in their essays for the IELTS students to have a good grasp of them. 8. Lexical resources are another important factor in writing good IELTS essays. The test taker should try to use his own words. Remember, also, to use topic-related words. Topic related words are those words that are closely related to the topic in question and are usually used frequently while writing or speaking about the subject. For example, if the topic is “pollution,” the related words are waste disposal, waste management, pollution control, effluent treatment, carbon emission, carbon footprint, global warming, environmental problems, greenhouse effect, climate change, deforestation, afforestation and so on. All IELTS essays in our books, “IELTS & TOEFL Made Easy” and “IELTS Writing made Easy” invariably use topic-related words, phrases and terms to benefit IELTS trainees. B-GHUD maintains its position as the top IELTS Training Centre in Kerala by ensuring that its students are provided with the best guidance. 9. GRA (Grammatical Range and Accuracy) is one of the main criteria for the evaluation of IELTS essays. Grammatical range means that the IELTS test takers should write a variety of sentence structures in their IELTS essay. B-GHUD book, “IELTS & TOEFL Made Easy,” caters to an extensive range of attractive structures (see pages 108, 109, 187, 239, 240, 300) for IELTS students to imbibe, so that they can write the impressive language. Grammatical accuracy generally means that the IELTS test takers should use the correct tenses in their IELTS essays. There are several interesting and intelligent exercises in our book, “IELTS & TOEFL Made Easy,” for the IELTS students to get adept at the use of the right tenses (“Syntax”) in their IELTS writing. 10. Writing the concluding paragraph is yet another important area that those IELTS students should be careful about. Since the conclusion is the last part of your essay, it creates a lasting impression on the evaluator. IELTS students should, therefore, try to make it striking. Your conclusion should not only be logical, but it also should not vary from the thesis sentence you have already written in the introduction. Consistency of your view is what the examiner looks for. 11. Last but not least, your word count should be sufficient (not less than 250 words.) Keep check of your word count from time to time while writing, so that your essay is neither short of the requisite word count nor too long. Whereas short answers will be penalised, you get no extra marks for long essays. Check your essay for grammar, spelling and punctuation errors before turning in your answer paper. We at B-GHUD make it customary to train our IELTS students in line with these strategies. It is thus that we consistently achieve a high success rate and keep being the No.1 IELTS Coaching Centre in Kerala.
B-GHUD is among the top International English Language Testing Systems coaching centres in India. Along with IELTS and TOEFL, B-GHUD provides you with the best PTE online coaching in Kerala. It is no ‘tall tale’ when we assert that, like our other courses, we have been reaping excellent results for PTE as well! For those who are new to PTE Academic, some interesting facts are given hereunder. What is the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic? PTE is an International English Language Testing System. It is unique in that it is different from IELTS or TOEFL. It accurately assesses the Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing ability of test-takers who wish to have higher education at institutions where English is the principal language of instruction. At the time of admission of applicants to these institutions, they will use the results of PTE Academic to determine the actual English language skills of the applicant. Who has developed PTE Academic? Pearson is the world’s leading education company. They are responsible for the development of PTE Academic. The professionals who have developed PTE are from several nations, including the USA, the UK and Australia. The test items are internationally approved to ensure that the test is a genuine measurement of international academic English. Hence it is a widely accepted system of language testing. How is PTE Academic different from IELTS or TOEFL? IELTS and TOEFL test the language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) of the test-takers in a direct way – say, for example, writing an essay, letter, graph analysis for the writing skill and reading some passages and then answering some questions for the Reading skill. However, PTE uses a variety of combined skills to assess a test taker’s skill in English for oral or written communication. This is so because language skills do not usually occur in the isolated or singular forms.

Using combined or integrated skills is important because in an academic environment students are often required to combine several language skills to perform a task. A perfect example to make this clearer is speaking on a subject after reading some information about it or listening to some information on the subject.

Know more about our Best IELTS Institutes in Kochi 6.
The IELTS listening sections are divided into four parts. Each section has 10 questions and is heard once only totalling 40 questions for the listening test. You have time to look through the questions before you listen, and also time to check your answers after each section. The time for the test is 40 minutes. The listening takes 30 minutes, but you then have 10 minutes to answer. The listening test is the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training modules.

Listening Sections

The IELTS listening test consists of four sections. The first two sections of the test are concerned with social needs. The final two sections are concerned with situations related more closely to educational or training contexts. All the IELTS listening topics are of general interest and it makes no difference what subjects you are planning to study or what work you intend to do.

Listening Section One

In the first section there is a conversation between two people set in an everyday social context, for example – a conversation in a train station.

Listening Section Two

The second section is a monologue set in an everyday social context, for example – a speech about social services in society by an officer.

Listening Section Three

The section three is a conversation between up to four people set in an educational or training context, for example – a discussion on project paper by students and tutors at college.

Listening Section Four

The last part is another monologue on an academic subject. It is a lecture or talk of general academic interest such as a university lecture.

You will listen to four recorded texts, monologues and conversations by a range of native speakers, and write their answers to a series of questions. These include questions which test the ability to understand main ideas and detailed factual information, ability to understand the opinions and attitudes of speakers, ability to understand the purpose of what is said and ability to follow the development of ideas. A variety of voices and native-speaker accents are used and you will hear each section only once.

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is managed by the IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English, and was established in 1989. IELTS is one of the major English-language tests in the world.

IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, European, Irish, and New Zealand academic institutions, by over 3,000 academic institutions in the United States, and by various professional organizations across the world.

IELTS is the only Secure English Language Test approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa customers applying both outside and inside the UK. It also meets requirements for immigration to Australia, where the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic are also accepted, and in New Zealand. In Canada, IELTS, TEF, or CELPIP are accepted by the immigration authority.

There are three reasons why you should take the IELTS

Work: If you’re hoping to pursue a career in an English speaking country, you first need to obtain a visa that permits you to do so. One of the steps in obtaining a visa is providing evidence that you are proficient in the English language.

If you want to succeed in your career, language skills are essential and by taking the IELTS, you’ll be fully prepared. Each country requires a certain score on the IELTS, for example, in the UK, applicants must score at least 6.5 on each of the four components of the test (Reading, Speaking, Listening, and Writing). And different occupations have different requirements too, with some demanding a higher score than others.

Study: Many English speaking universities require international students to take the IELTS as a condition of their initial application and acceptance. If you’re looking to do an undergraduate or postgraduate course that is taught in English, an IELTS can not only help you get on the course but will also help you to succeed within your studies. The better your English language skills, the better you’ll do on your course.

Immigration: If you would like to obtain citizenship in an English speaking country, many countries require good English in order for you to obtain permanent residence. Knowing the language of your country is a great indicator of how well you will integrate and how likely you are to successfully work in said country.

IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic is for students who are looking to go abroad for post-secondary studies. Medium of instruction is English. For instance if you want to study in a Canadian college or Canadian university, you have to submit an Academic IELTS test score for application. After getting the desired band score you are eligible to apply to college or university.

IELTS Academic Training Is For:

Academic purposes – Candidates who want to apply in Universities of the UK, the USA, Australia, or the county where English is considered as the main language.

Training Institutes – Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses and Pathologists require more band scores.

Multinational companies – Accounting, Engineering & Law

Government departments – International firms e.g. marine engineering, accounting, educational institutes.

IELTS General

IELTS General is specifically for those candidates who are thinking about general immigration to countries such as Canada, USA, Australia, and the UK. This test is required by most of the companies abroad to determine the ability of the foreign hires in English. It is basically taken into consideration for testing your English-speaking abilities in everyday situations and events like social & work environments.

IELTS General Training Is A Requirement For:

Immigration purposes – IELTS General is required for visa purposes in order to work and live in those countries such as Canada, Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand.

Employment – For getting employment in those countries that require a Language certificate in order to apply for a job or for a promotion e.g. government departments.

Promotion purposes – IELTS General helps you get a better job or a promotion in your home country.

General immigration- Your close family members.

IELTS Academic vs. IELTS General – Difference In Content

Basically, the listening and Speaking sections of both tests are the same. If we talk about the test format, the topics and questions of both the test types are the same whether you’re thinking about an Academic or General test, so the pattern for preparation for both will be the same just for these two sections. But for the other two modules i.e reading and writing sections in the IELTS test you need to follow a different approach for both test types. Yet the format of these sections are similar – The reading module in both versions contains 40 questions and on the other hand, the Writing tasks of both test formats are different in terms of content.

What is IELTS for UKVI?

‘IELTS for UKVI’ is a UK government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). This means that UKVI IELTS can be used to prove your English language abilities in support of a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) application. This applies to everyone coming from a non-English speaking country. IELTS is accepted in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK. But UKVI is only accepted in the UK itself.

While there is no change in the content, format, or level of difficulty and scoring, IELTS for UKVI simply follows certain extra security protocols to ensure the authenticity of the test taker. Also, your Test Report Form (TRF) may look slightly different from the one given for IELTS Academic or General Training.

What is IELTS Life Skills?

IELTS Life Skills is a UK government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) that assesses your English speaking and listening skills at Level A1, A2, or B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

This is the test to take if you are applying for the following types of UK visa:

Candidates who are compliant to work as Senior Caretakers

Family Visa

Extension to family, spouse, or partner visa

indefinite leave to remain or citizenship.

IELTS Life Skills is available at two levels:

IELTS Life Skills – A1 Speaking and Listening

IELTS Life Skills – A2 Speaking and Listening (offered in the UK only).

IELTS Life Skills – B1 Speaking and Listening

Similarities Between IELTS and IELTS UKVI

IELTS General Training, IELTS Academic, and IELTS Life Skills or IELTS UKVI tests are accepted by the UK government for visa and immigration as proof of applicants’ English language proficiency if they are visiting the country for studies, work, and life. These tests are managed by the various IELTS partners such as the British Council and taken based on the same content, format, examiners, difficulty level, scoring band, and so on.

These tests have been designed by some of the leading language and language assessment experts. So, when you give one of these tests, your full range of English language skills will be examined.

Additionally, you need to clear each section and obtain minimum marks set by the respective university or employer to successfully get admission or a new job abroad. The committee will assess your following skills through the test:

Listening

Writing

Reading

Speaking

Difference between IELTS and UKVI

IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are the exact same test in terms of format, content, scoring, and level of difficulty. The only difference is an IELTS for the UKVI test is approved by the UK Home Office for work, study, and migration purposes.

There are 12 centers offering IELTS tests (paper-based or computer-delivered) in Kerala whereas Kochi is the only Exam Center offering UKVI tests. Also, Normal IELTS tests are not recorded whereas UKVI tests are video recorded.

Who needs IELTS UKVI?

If you’d like to study in the UK, you may need to take a UKVI IELTS to demonstrate your English language ability in order to apply for a Tier 4 Student visa. If you’re a student or medical professional with ‘below degree level’ (Diploma), you’ll need to take an IELTS for UKVI test.

How long is UKVI IELTS valid?

As a general rule, a Test Report Form is valid at least for two years.

Does UK accept regular IELTS test?

UKVI can be used to prove your English Language abilities in support of UK Visas and Immigration. Only IELTS exams with ‘UKVI’ in the titles are accepted by the UK Home Office. As standard, the UK Home Office requires an overall pass rate of 4.0 as part of the visa application. However, the pass rate for registering with the NMC is much higher.

What is the required IELTS band score for work in the UK?

To become a nurse or midwife in the UK, there are two IELTS options:

UKVI IELTS

IELTS or OET (Bachelor of Nursing or above)

The IELTS or OET exam requires a pass rate of 7.0 in Reading, Speaking and Listening, and 6.5 for Writing whereas UKVI General Training requires an overall pass rate of 4.0.
