Should Violent Crime Coverage Be Banned?

Should Violent Crime Coverage Be Banned?

A SAMPLE OF AN IELTS, PTE OR TOEFL ESSAY. A Recent Qn: Media coverage of violent crime frightens people and encourages criminals. Some people say it should be banned from newspapers and TV programs. To what extend do you agree or disagree? The role media in reporting violent crime has sparked intense debate, the world over. While some argue that media coverage should be banned, citing its impact on frightening people and encourage criminals, I partially disagree. On the one hand, excessive media coverage of violent crime can indeed perpetuate fear and anxiety among the public. Sensationalized reporting can create a distorted perception of reality, making people believe that crime is more prevalent than it actually is. Moreover, glorifying criminals or their acts can potentially inspire young minds, who seem to be impulsive rather than being objective. On the other hand, banning media coverage of violent crime seems to be not a viable solution. The media plays a crucial role in informing public in general about potential threats and promoting awareness about crime prevention. Responsible reporting can also facilitate community engagement, encouraging witnesses to come forward and facilitating police investigations. Instead of a blanket ban, media outlets should adopt responsible reporting practices, avoiding sensationalism and prioritizing factual accuracy. Additionally, governments and law enforcement agencies should work with the media to provide context and promote public awareness campaigns. By striking a balance between informed reporting and responsible communication, the negative impacts of media coverage can be minimised while maintaining its essential role in informing the public. Therefore, I partially disagree with the statement. You can also read: DOES THE VIOLENCE IN MARCO & the much-hyped EMPURAN instigate youngsters to engage in VIOLENT CRIMES?

VIOLENT CRIMES

Life is not just to amass riches. There are many noble aspects to it. It must be borne in mind by all, be they seasoned directors or iconic actors in the big screen. Dismantling our society which is devoid of any values, us not a good thing to do and marketing movies on the basis of hype and super hype unprecedented. Today, violence is on the increase everywhere, at home, at work and in every domain of society for reasons varied. And it is even being glorified by our political leaders and the silent religious leaders, the so-called flag bearers of our society which is claimed to have a great culture. Even otherwise, the very foundation of our society is being shaken due to the break up of families, erosion of eternal values (SANATHANA DHARMA), and the disturbing trend of aping the worst of the Western Culture. As we are living in a society which comprises infants, children, women and the most silent senile elderly. the majority being peace loving people, taking movies with a hidden agenda of making profit alone is certainly disgusting, to use a refined word. Since the artistes involved in taking movies are expected to have some sense of social commitment, making money alone should not be the objective as life is transient. This highly despising attitude should be looked down upon, however prominent they are, whose priority is just to be rich in this fast revolving and rotation earth. Oh, what a fallacy! The depiction of violence in certain movies, such as MARCO & EMPURAN, has raised concerns about its potential impact on youngsters. These Malayalam films, known for their graphic but brute violence, can have a profound influence on young minds, the hope of the morrow. Exposure to such content can definitely desensitize youngsters to violence, making it seem acceptable and even glorified. Today, when family intimacy is on the decline, sowing seeds of violence in growing buds must be welcome with the deserving contempt. Many researches have already established that repeated exposure to violent media can increase aggression & decrease empathy in individuals, be they ill-educated or well-taught. Youngsters, in particular, are vulnerable to this influence due to their impressionable and impulsive nature. Moreover, the glorification of violence in movies can also create a sense of excitement & thrill-seeking, leading many youngsters to engage in violent behavior, disturbing the backbone of our society. Parents and guardians must also be vigilant in monitoring what movies their young children watch, and should ensure that the contents of those films are constructive rather than destructive. ensuring that they are not exposed to excessive violence is one of the priorities of parenthood today when even the high court of Kerala was forced to suggest to all teachers to carry a cane when they are at school, although corporal punishment is banned in educational institutions. Assaulting and even killing one’s own mother has become not uncommon, though not the norm, a proof for an ailing society which is neither structured on moral guidelines or eternal values, let alone the much needed discipline. Therefore, it is essential for filmmakers to bear in mind the potential impact of their content on young audiences. Amassing riches through refined means is permissible and as such, any other means to procure wealth should be treated with contempt.

DOWRY: A BANE & SHAME ON HUMANITY.

DOWRY

The idea for this write-up was triggered by a recent news clip on the incident of a young lady in kerala was thrown out from her husband’s family after two years of marriage (once-in-a-life-timemarriage!) just by sending three thalaks (muthalak) by whatsapp by her “beloved” husband, working in the Gulf. Isn’t it a sign of progress of our society! Of course, this is the 21st century of LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation & globalisation) . In this globalised world where state-of-the-art technology & top-notch equipment enhance the quality of life, women are still sidelined in every sphere; be they at work or at home, because of the shallow vision of religious leaders, parochial views of political leaders & the shallowness of our education which seems to be regressive, rather than progressive. But even today, when the greedy ones in the mightiest nation think of settling in mars, when monarchs reign along with the mother of parliaments (in Britain. Oh what a paradox!), when male domination is held high by almost all religious leaders, women, the half of humanity, are still confined to the 4 walls of their kitchens. Women are considered inferior, not just in Saudi Arabia, but in the whole gulf, in every nation of africa, & certainly in India and Pakistan. To preach in volumes on the equality of genders in broad day light & to suppress women to any extent, need the thickness of hippopotamus skin. While the so-called enlightened politicians oppress women with their hypocritic irrational logic even in the domain of governance, there is hardly any ray of hope in the horizon for the empowerment of women. It is high time we realised that this practice of dowry remains a pervasive & devastating issue prevails only in underdeveloped nations, perpetuating the oppression of women in every domain of human activity. This so-called ‘unquestionable’ custom, often justified by regressive dogmatic concepts of religions, reinforces the notion that women are commodities to be bought and sold. Why even the enlightened doctors, architects & engineers are not ashamed to demand dowry. When women rub shoulders with men in almost every field, a society can progress only with liberated women from the clutches of regressive religious dogmas & from the narrow-minded political leaders who pretend to be be-all and end-all. The consequences are dire: life-long financial burdens on families, domestic violence against women, moral policing, & even deaths related to caste and tribe prevailing at a time when progressive nations boast of gender equality & respect for the inalienable human rights. These centuries old superstitions & precedents are further embedded by unchallengeable (!) religious leaders who hardly practise what they preach. In addition, dowry perpetuates the notion that women are inferior to men, & lack inherent values. As women increasingly participate in various fields alongside men, demanding or giving dowry is certainly a thing of stone age, & it must be condemned. It is imperative that we challenge & dismantle these oppressive systems, promoting a culture of equality, respect, (yes, respect) and empowerment for women. Only when women are respected & their multifaceted efforts are appreciated, a society can be considered progressive, & quality in life can be achieved. Let’s learn that the earlier we realise that the passivity of women is their strength & it is vital for the perpetuation of mankind. Let there be some discerning ability in us to acknowledge the hard work of women, before it is too late.

HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY

HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY

Where women are respected & their efforts are acknowledged, life becomes worth living there for both men and children, the hopes of the morrow. Today, when AI & robotics are setting a new world of ease & the quality of life is being improved, why women are destined to lead a mundane life because of dogmatic beliefs of the 6th century and the hypocrisy of the so-called elite and the affluent who seem to unsatiable. When tensions between nations looming large, and wars have again become realities to devastate everything what humanity has built in centuries, we should ensure that women and their innocent children be free from the atrocities of fascists and greedy men who care only for the satiation of their materialistic needs in their transient lives. It is high time we found time to find time to acknowledge the tireless efforts of women worldwide who continue to break barriers and are forced work both at home at the work place to meet both ends. Despite progress, women remain marginalized in many areas for reasons varied. World leaders, institutions & societies often sideline women, perpetuating exploitation under the guise of tradition and beliefs. It’s imperative that we empower women to set and achieve their goals, ensuring a quality life. As AI and digitisation transform our world by setting new norms, we must harness these advancements to alleviate women’s hardships and create opportunities for them. Let’s strive for a future where women are valued, respected & empowered to reach their full potential. Together, we can create a more equitable and just world for all, for the bright future of our next generation facilitated mainly by our women.   Join now: https://bghud.com/all-courses/
