UNETHICAL PRACTICES OF DOCTORS & HOSPITALS

It is with sincere appreciation for the few dedicated doctors and their empathetic service to humankind, I am writing this point of view.

Doctors certainly play a vital role in every society, but the exorbitant fees they and their hospitals charge these days reveal that there is no regulatory body to fix these rates. It must be seriously noted that to satiate the greed of doctors and hospitals, most of the sidelined and the middle class people have to bear unbearable medical costs.

Of course, these doctors might have spent a good amount of money for their studies to the greedy managements, (strangely enough, most of them are in the name of a god), and might have spent strenuous efforts to excel in this unique field. However, to be greedy is just another aspect which cannot be satiated by any unorganized patient community.

It is imperative for doctors & hospitals to reassess their medical charges and prioritize patient welfare over mere profits.

When I gave a doctor Rs 200 for his diagnosis of an ordinary illness, he demanded rs 300. And his diagnosis was proved to be wrong by another doctor. Therefore, demanding unjustifiable consultation fees can even deter people from seeking medical attention, exacerbating their otherwise avoidable health issues.

Moreover, patients have the right to quality care and accurate diagnoses. If doctors fail to deliver, they should reimburse their consultation fee and other costs. This practice would promote accountability and the much needed trust in the healthcare system. Implementing such a system would require a shift in mindset, but it is essential for ensuring patients receive the care they deserve.

By prioritizing the well-being of patients and promoting transparency, doctors can rebuild trust & provide more equitable care. This approach would benefit both patients and the medical profession as a whole. Since all consumers have their rights, it is time doctors are made accountable to their patients rater than pretending to be the be -all and end-all of everything. If healthcare professionals are willing to follow more patient-centric approach and make healthcare more affordable to both the rich and the marginalised, what a relief it would be for humankind.
